What is the process of counseling?

The process of counseling begins with a double session (as the first one goes by extremely fast). The next step is to work with Ms. Kurz to find you a day of the week and time of the day that is yours! Ms. Kurz then reserves this time for you each week. Having the same time and day each week provides a stable and consistent framework for you to accomplish your relationship, career, mental health and personal goals.

What are the different types of counseling for mental health?

Therapists use a variety of theories with their clients.  Ms. Kurz draws from many different theories, including but not limited to:

  • Depth Psychology

  • Transpersonal Psychology

  • Object Relations

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Ms. Kurz will use the therapeutic approaches most effective for your specific challenges.

How many sessions should I get to help with mental health?

Most clients come into therapy with decades of habits that are keeping them stuck. Clients will generally require at least one year of regular weekly sessions to unlearn these habits and replace them with new effective skills.

Is online counseling as effective as in person counseling?

After the COVID-19 pandemic, many therapists only offered remote therapy. Ms. Kurz gives you the advantage of offering both remote and in-person therapy as you prefer.

In the beginning, if you are in the Greater Seattle area and can visit her office in Redmond, she recommends starting therapy in-person.

Can I receive online treatment while also attending in person therapy sessions?

Many of Ms. Kurz’s clients travel for work or are retired. When in town in Seattle or Redmond, they prefer in-person sessions. When they are traveling or living elsewhere, they opt for on-line sessions. A mixture of online and in-person sessions are common.

How does privacy work with telehealth and online counseling?

Just as with in-person counseling, Ms. Kurz is alone in a room with a closed door while speaking to you. The platforms she uses for remote sessions, such as Zoom and Skype, only allow for two people to be engaged in the discussion.

What are the common billing codes for mental health services and counseling?

Here are some of the typical billing and diagnostic codes Ms. Kurz will use:

  • CPT 90837 - 45 minute individual session

  • 300.02 (F41.1) - Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

  • 296.32 (F33.1) - Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) - Moderate Recurrent

  • 314.01 (F90.8) - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) - Other

Ms. Kurz is aware that having your insurance company reimburse you for your therapy helps many clients make therapy affordable. She works hard to ensure the codes she chooses are accurate and will provide you with your maximum insurance reimbursements.

How to pay for counseling?

Ms. Kurz requires payment at the time of the session. In-person clients bring a check each week, and remote clients send a check for the month at the beginning of the month.
